Selected Works > The Ultimate Adventurers

Images of adventurers in the field were removed from a collection of National Geographic magazines. These images featured moments of discovery, triumph or danger experienced by soley male protagonists. In reaction to these images, I staged a feminist expedition across a range of Perth's op-shops. Through the simple act of matching I paired discarded clothes with those worn by the men in the photos. These garments were scanned and printed haphazardly over the photographs, then assembled in a grid.

This work aims to problematise distinctions between the unremarkable found object and the coveted artefact. It also grapples with broader ideas of futility, accomplishment and the gendered nature of 'adventure' narratives.
